Costume thieves take flight
The Rondo Theatre, home to the North Queensland Players and the Cairns Dance Ensemble, was broken into in the early hours of this morning.
Head choreographer of the Dance Ensemble, Rodney K Wright (pictured above) has attributed the crime to youths, who have been frequenting the area lately.
"Well, it's the only spot in the region where you can find a Charmander pretty consistently," he said. "For some reason the Nintendo people have made the Rondo into a gym and put some of the little bastards in our wardrobe room."
Mr Wright reported that the thieves had made off with several costumes. "They nicked at least three cassowary outfits, and several modesty socks," he said. "It's going to really affect our production of Swan Lake."
The Cairns Dance Ensemble are known for their innovative take on classic dance themes. The three-week run of Swan Lake commences at the Rondo in mid February.
Police have appealed to anyone who may have seen three cassowaries and a white swan riding bicycles through the botanic gardens at around 2am this morning. Investigations are ongoing.
