Lee to headline the CUF?

Speculation is rife that indie rocker and sometime philosopher, Sir Ben Lee, has been invited to headline this year's Cairns Ukulele festival, the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

Lee burst onto the scene in 2005 and his ubiquitous anthem 'Catch My Disease' has captured the hearts of the tropical north. Since 2011 the North Queensland Cowboys have adopted it as their official end-of-season song.

More recently, Sir Ben's work with Zooey Deschanel, Mandy Moore and Josh Radnor has led to international recognition and a knighthood for services to popular music.

Cairns mayor, Bob Manning wouldn't be drawn on whether Sir Ben had been invited to 'the big pluck'. "Look, I can't confirm anything," Bob said. "But getting Sir Ben up here would be a helluva coup for us. Everyone knows he's a uke-nut."

The Plain Dealer attempted to confirm the rumours through Lee's management company, Sir Manic Pixie Dream-boy Incorporated, but received no response.
