CL to headline the CUF?
Korean superstar, CL (above), formerly of K-pop super-group, 2NE1, and onetime/one-night partner of Sir Geoff Huegill is reportedly in negotiations to headline the Cairns Ukelele festival.
CL, whose last outing was a Grammy-award winning track on The Little Pony soundtrack, is hugely popular in North Queensland, and securing her services would be a tremendous coup for festival organisers.
When asked about the development, Mayor Bob Manning refused to be drawn on the speculation. "I tend to defer these operational decisions to my staff," he said. "So give Flossie or Jenks a call. Having said that, I'd love to throw my weight behind CL. She's a cutie. And a uke-nut."
Festival Commissar, Florence (Flossie) Henderson, and Chief Operating Officer, Matthew Jenkins, have been negotiating for some months with high-profile talent to attend the festival. Nicky Buckley, Alex Papps and Joe Perrone are confirmed as performers, and discussions are still progressing with Josh Groban, TI and Steppenwolf.
Until the revelations that CL may be a candidate, it was understood that the prestigious headline slot was between Sir Ben Lee and Keith Urban. Sources have told the Plain Dealer that the selection jury are in a bitter deadlock on religious and artistic grounds over which of the two should get the nod.
The availability of CL, who is mostly Buddhist and visibly untatted may prove to be a godsend for the festival organisers.
