Elton visits the Big Peanut
There was great excitement on the Tablelands this week, as Elton John made good on his earlier promise to visit the region's tourist hotspots.
Following the fourth encore at his sellout concert last Saturday night at Cazaly's Stadium, Elton was taken for a private viewing of the Danbulla Cathedral Fig Tree, and then whisked to the luxurious President's Van at the Tolga Caravan Park.
During his subsequent visit, Elton was given a tour of the Tolga Spaceport hosted by Elon Musk, and was spied enjoying a plate of nachos at the Superstar Cafe in Atherton.
He also found time to belt out an a capella version of 'Crystal' from the 'Too Low For Zero' album at Walkamin. A video of the impromptu performance, held under the shadow of Peter the Peanut, has already received over one billion hits on YouTube.
Owners of the roadside mascot, Ian and Karen Delaney, were rapt with the performance. "Unbelievable," exclaimed Mr Delaney. "Elton had promised to sing a song for Peter, and all of Walkamin turned out to see it. So pleased we invested in some spectacles and testicles for the big fella! Money well spent."
Elton left Cairns today for a series of shows in Yemen.
To commemorate the occasion, artist Steve Casino has produced a unique sculpture celebrating Elton and peanut (above).
